Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, in a press conference on Sunday, said that two people have lost their lives in separate incidents due to Cyclone Tauktae.
While one person died after coming under a huge tree that fell due to heavy rains and strong winds, an electric poll fell on another person travelling on a bike.
"Two deaths have been reported in Goa. More than 500 trees have fallen. Around 100 major houses and 100 minor houses were damaged. Roads are blocked. The power supply is disrupted," Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said.
The chief minister also said that the toll may increase.
CM Sawant said that most parts of Goa are currently without electricity, adding that it will take two days to restore things.
The situation of heavy rains and high-speed winds will continue till May 17, CM Pramod Sawant said and appealed to the people to not step out of their homes.
The chief minister, however, also added that the power supply inside hospitals has not been affected. "In GMC [Goa Medical College], there was a power cut for 15 minutes, but there was power back up. No shortage of oxygen," he said.
