Indian Idol 12: Manoj Muntashir lashes out at Amit Kumar; says, 'He took money and then criticised'
Indian Idol 12 has come under severe scrutiny after Amit Kumar revealed that the makers had asked him to praise the contestants during the Kishore Kumar special episode. He also said that he didn't like the judges Neha Kakkar and Himesh Reshammiya singing his father and legendary singer's songs and felt it as an insult. However, lyricist Manoj Muntashir has agreed to disagree with Amit Kumar. He lashed out at Amit saying that he took the money and then went on to criticised the show.
"If Amit Kumar came out and lashed out at the show, he shouldn’t have agreed to be a part of it in the first place. He took money for being a part of the show and then criticised it. I wouldn’t have done what Amit Kumar did. If I was in his place and not comfortable with the proceedings, I would have told the makers that I don’t want to be a part of the show,” Manoj Muntashir told TOI.
Manoj also defended Neha and Himesh against Amit's harsh criticism saying that 'whatever Neha and Himesh sang, they did to celebrate Kishore Kumar and it should have been taken in the right spirit.' He also said that it is wrong for the guest judges to constantly criticise the contestants as it will demotivate them.
The lyricist admitted that the Indian Idol 12 makers had also given him instructions to talk about the contestants positives as well. He added that Amir Kumar took it the 'wrong way' and felt that he was supposed to shower only praise upon the contestants.
"The harsh criticism by the guest judges demotivates the contestants. So, the guest judges are told that they need to look at and talk about the singer’s positives too. This instruction has been given to me too. Of course, we as professional musicians have high benchmarks but we cannot weigh the kids on the same scale. See my episode this Saturday and Sunday and I have pointed out the contestants’ errors,” Manoj said.
Meanwhile, Sunidhi Chauhan, who has been a part of the judges panel on the 5th and 6th season of Indian Idol, said that she quit the singing reality show because the makers wanted her to praise the contestants.
